9 Days Tanzania Luxury Walking Safari and Cultural Tour
OVERVIEW
This 9-day Tanzania luxury walking safari takes you deep into the heart of Maasailand, where breathtaking landscapes, rich wildlife, and authentic cultural experiences come together. Walk through the stunning highlands of Ngorongoro, explore the remote beauty of Olmoti and Empakaai Craters, and end at the dramatic Lake Natron. This adventure blends comfortable accommodations with the thrill of walking safaris, giving you an up-close connection to nature and the Maasai way of life.
Touch down at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where a driver will be waiting to take you to a luxury lodge in Arusha. Settle in, relax, and prepare for the journey ahead. If time allows, a short city tour or a visit to a local coffee plantation can be arranged.
After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its incredible wildlife and stunning landscapes. Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim, where you can soak in the breathtaking views before a guided walk along the rim in the afternoon.
An early start gets you into the crater for a full day of game viewing. This natural wonder is home to lions, elephants, rhinos, and countless other species. After a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, return to the lodge in the afternoon for relaxation and a sunset dinner.
The walking safari begins! A short drive takes you to the starting point of your hike to Olmoti Crater, a hidden gem known for its peaceful surroundings and the Munge Waterfall. Walk alongside a Maasai guide, learning about the plants, wildlife, and Maasai traditions. Spend the night at a comfortable mobile camp under the stars.
Wake up to the sounds of nature and start the scenic trek to Empakaai Crater. The path leads through lush forests, home to birds and monkeys, before descending into the crater where flamingos gather on the soda lake. Enjoy lunch with a view before settling in at another luxury mobile camp nearby.
Continue the walking safari, descending from the highlands towards the Rift Valley escarpment. The scenery shifts as dry, rugged landscapes replace the green crater highlands. Vehicles will meet you at the base to take you to your lodge near Lake Natron, where you can unwind and cool off in a natural spring.
A guided walk along the shores of Lake Natron offers incredible views of the soda lake, home to thousands of flamingos. Later, hike to the nearby waterfalls for a refreshing swim in the clear waters.
For those up for a challenge, an optional night climb of Ol Doinyo Lengai, the only active carbonatite volcano in the world, can be arranged. Alternatively, spend the day at the lodge, enjoying the peaceful surroundings or exploring more of the area.
After breakfast, drive back to Arusha for lunch and a bit of relaxation before your flight. If time allows, stop by a local market for souvenirs before heading to the airport.
