8 Days Tanzania Wildlife Photography Safari
OVERVIEW
This 8-day Tanzania wildlife photography safari takes you through some of the most photogenic landscapes and wildlife-rich areas in northern Tanzania. From the elephant herds of Tarangire to the endless plains of the Serengeti, the dramatic Ngorongoro Crater, and the unique cultural encounters in Maasai and Hadzabe villages, every moment is a chance to capture stunning images. The itinerary is designed to give photographers the best lighting conditions and ample time in each location.
After landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax or take a short walk around town to get a feel for Tanzania. Your guide will brief you on the upcoming safari. Overnight stay in Arusha.
An early start takes you to Tarangire National Park, known for its large elephant populations and iconic baobab trees. The park’s open savannah and Tarangire River attract wildlife, offering great opportunities for action shots of predators and prey. The golden light of the late afternoon is perfect for capturing dramatic landscapes. Overnight at a lodge near the park.
A long but scenic drive leads to Serengeti National Park, where you will spend three days photographing its abundant wildlife. Depending on the season, you might witness the Great Migration, with thousands of wildebeest and zebras crossing the plains. Early morning and evening game drives allow you to capture the best light. Cheetahs on termite mounds, lion prides in the grass, and towering giraffes make for incredible shots. Overnight in a tented camp in the heart of the Serengeti.
Leaving the Serengeti, you’ll descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wonder packed with wildlife. This is one of the best places in Tanzania for close-up shots of rhinos, lions, and large herds of buffalo. The crater walls create a stunning backdrop for photography. After a full day of exploration, you will stay overnight at a lodge near the crater rim.
In the morning, visit a Maasai village to photograph their traditional way of life. Vibrant red shukas, intricate beadwork, and lively dances make for colorful and dynamic images. Later, head to Lake Eyasi, home to the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes. Spend time with the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes in Africa. Capture their daily activities, from hunting with bows and arrows to making fire using traditional methods. Overnight stay near Lake Eyasi.
After a relaxed morning, return to Arusha, where you can do some last-minute shopping or enjoy a meal before heading to the airport. Your Tanzania wildlife photography safari ends here, but the memories and images will last a lifetime.
