3-Day Chimpanzee Safari in Gombe National Park

OVERVIEW

This is a primate safari tour of Gombe National Park, where you’ll be hiking after and tracking the local population of chimpanzees. Although seeing these noble animals is the obvious highlight of this tour, you’ll also get to visit the beautiful Lake Tanganyika. In this special place, you can snorkel, swim, or join the locals for a bit of fishing. Oh, and did we mention the chimpanzees?! Prepare to feel humbled and privileged to see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.

Day 1 - Dar or Arusha Fly to Kigoma

Your flight from Dar es Salaam or Arusha to Kigoma departs at 10:30 am. On arrival at Kibirizi Port, you’ll take a 2-hour boat ride to Gombe.

After arriving at your Kaseka Luxury Tented Campsite, you’ll have lunch, followed by an afternoon of chimpanzee tracking. You’ll hike deep into the park to explore its untamed landscape while tracking the chimpanzees and other species of primates that live in the tropical forests of Gombe Stream.

Afterwards, head back to your camp for a refreshing swim in the freshwater Lake Tanganyika before dinner.

Day 2 - Chimpanzee tracking

Today’s chimpanzee tracking starts at 8:30 am. You’ll hike to Jane’s Peak, which stands at roughly 3,500m.

On this special day in Gombe National Park, you’ll also learn about local plants and fruit trees, and descend to a stunning natural waterfall for a refreshing swim.

As walking with food is not allowed in the park, you’ll head back to the campsite for lunch.

In the afternoon you can snorkel or swim in the deepest freshwater lake in Africa and the second-largest lake in the world.

Day 3 - Last Day

On your last day, you’ll go for a morning hike into the deep forest.

You’ll also have one last chance to swim in the lake before taking a scenic boat ride back to Kigoma town for lunch. Keep your camera handy on the boat, as the surrounding landscapes are simply spectacular!

Your flight is at 4:30 pm and you’ll arrive in Dar es Salaam at 6 pm.
